Boss Training Launches Asbestos Awareness E Learning Courses

Who are Boss?

Boss Training are a health and safety training company based in Halifax and are up there in the leading lights of UKATA asbestos training programmes. To address the demand for E-Learning as a training option, Boss are launching an online version of their training course, which is in the audit stage with UKATA. Upon successful completion of the audit, Boss will be offering this course 24/7 throughout the entire calendar year. In addition to this exemplary telephone and email support will be offered in office hours.

The E-Learning advantage

In line with the rigorous UKATA standards there is an extremely strict external audit, which guarantees a superior learning experience. E-Learning has several key advantages to having to be present in physical courses.

  • Flexibility: most workforces have a variety of staff with differing needs and schedules outside of work. E-Learning is by far the best option in such cases as it allows training to work around people’s daily lives.
  • Low cost: Online asbestos training costs a fair bit less than ‘in person’ alternatives. This can be crucial for small to medium businesses looking to comply without damaging the company bank account.

Why is asbestos training still so important?

Asbestos, as most of us know by now is an extremely noxious substance that has a long history of causation of the type of cancer known as mesothelioma, as well as other conditions, fatalities from which in the UK last year peaked at around 2,000. Many of the deaths and diagnoses of mesothelioma are a consequence of historical contact with asbestos, before regulations came in, so it is no surprise that, considering the long incubation period of the disease, cases are still on the rise. The regulations and rise in training requirements are absolutely what is necessary to prevent more cases resulting from those at risk, especially those working in older buildings predating restrictions on asbestos usage.

The fundamental aim of asbestos awareness training is to ensure the relevant people are fully cognisant of the risks and procedures to follow should they come across or be working close to asbestos containing materials (ACMs).

Added to this, companies who have employees at risk of coming into contact with asbestos are under legal obligation to provide asbestos awareness training for their staff (Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 – CAR 12). Online training is the easiest and most time and cost efficient way of fulfilling these legal obligations.
